A FAMILY fun day in north Durham has raised over £70 for Children in Need.

Disney characters took part in a tug-of-war and game of rounders at South Moor Sport and Community Club in Quaking Houses, near Stanley, on Saturday.

There was an old fashioned police van, most famous for being in the television series, Heartbeat, and Stanley police team offered free dog chipping.

Attractions included a fun fair and a free dog agility course so people could test the skills of their pets.

Organiser Lewis Christie, 18, from South Moor, said: “Things like this really bring the community and residents of the surrounding areas together to make one big day worthwhile.

“The weather was kind to us after the warning of rain but it kept away.

“Now, as a group, we can concentrate on the main appeal night at the new North Durham Academy on Friday November 14 .

“I would like to thank everyone who helped out on the day.”

The free charity fundraiser in November will include stalls, food, tombola, auction and raffle.

There will be a ticketed show by the 99th Garrison Star Wars Band in the theatre for £5 with all proceeds going to BBC Children in Need.
