A MAN charged with attempted murder following a machete attack which left a man with a cut head and a deep leg wound is to appear at Durham Crown Court.
Gary Johnson, 25, of Pelaw Avenue, Chester-le-Street, allegedly attacked a 26-year-old man at Braidwood Mews in Stanley in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident is believed to have taken place at around 4.30am at Mr Johnson’s ex-girlfriend’s house.
Police were called, Johnson was arrested and weapon thought to have been used in the attack was recovered.
He appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Monday and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and address. No plea was entered.
During the hearing it emerged the victim had suffered a laceration to the top of his head and a deep leg wound.
The court heard he also suffered bruising to his right eye, back and shoulders, as well as a broken nose and several bruises and scratches across his body.
He was treated at hospital for serious injuries but has since been discharged.
An application to grant Johnson bail was refused by magistrates and he was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Durham Crown Court on Tuesday, August 26.
He waved to his mother, who was sat in the public gallery, as he was led away in handcuffs.
