POLICE officers continued their search today for three brothers who went missing from their foster parents' home.

The brothers, who are Polish and living in Sunderland, went for a bike ride at 5.20pm on Monday (August 11) to nearby Mowbray Park, in the town centre.

Police are appealing for help to trace the boys, Remus,15, Janko, 12, and ten-year-old David, who all have the surname Matloch.

They were expected back at their foster parents’ home, in The Oaks, by 8pm, but failed to return.

Police revealed on Tuesday afternoon that CCTV footage has been found which shows the boys riding through Mowbray Park, in Sunderland.

Instead of stopping to spend time in the park, they rode to the nearby Park Lane Metro Station.

They were seen inside the station without their bikes or helmets a short time later at 5.24pm. They were then seen to buy tickets to Newcastle Central Railway Station.

Police also have an image of them inside Newcastle Central Railway Station at 6.04pm and then leaving the station, go out of the main doors and turn left going towards the Centre for Life.

After that the trail turns cold and police do not know where they went next Superintendent Alan Veitch, of Sunderland Area Command, said: "We are increasingly concerned for the boys welfare and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen the youngsters travel on the Metro from Sunderland Park Lane arriving at Newcastle Central Station at 6.04pm last night.

"We urgently need to hear from anyone who saw the boys after that. We don't know if they travelled onward by rail, or if they came into Newcastle, or used another form of transport to go elsewhere.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries to locate these young people. So far we believe they may have been travelling to the railway station for a purpose to meet with a friend or family member.

"We would ask if anyone knows the boy's whereabouts we would ask them to contact police straightaway. We need to know where the boys are and that they are safe.

"Officers are also making enquiries with family members in Blyth and South Shields and also with other forces elsewhere including the Birmingham area."

The boys, who have never previously gone missing, have not answered calls to their mobile phones in the period since they left home.

As concern grew over their whereabouts, Northumbria Police began inquiries in the area.

The force has issued descriptions of the three boys, all said to speak good English, who each had their bikes with them when they left home. Their bikes and helmets have not been found.

Remus is 5 ft 7ins, of slim build, with dark coloured hair in a big quiff at the front and shaved at the back.

He was last seen wearing jogging bottoms, a t-shirt, a baseball cap and a black cycling helmet.

Janko is 4ft 8ins, with fairer hair, styled in a quiff and short at the back.

He is of medium build and was last seen wearing ‘smart’ mustard coloured chino-style trousers, Converse-type trainers, a blue lightweight waterproof jacket with a white zip, and a silver cycling helmet.

David, also 4ft 8ins, has shaggy dark brown hair, and is said to be of ‘chubby build’.

He was possibly wearing shorts and a top, plus a silver coloured cycling helmet.

The brothers are said to have family members in Blyth, Northumberland, and in South Shields, South Tyneside.

Officers involved in the inquiry have appealed for the three brothers to make contact with them, or anyone who recognises them, or knows of their whereabouts, is asked to call police immediately.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 1276 of 11/08/14.
