A CHARITY supporting wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans is offering a short internship to help in its preparations for a fundraising winter ball.

Help for Heroes run Phoenix House recovery centre in Catterick Garrison is looking for a local candidate keen to gain experience of working for a charity, to be based within the PR and communications team for three months.

Phoenix House is hosting its Winter Ball in November to raise funds for the centre and needs help to co-ordinate all aspects of organising the large event.

Duties will include maintaining Microsoft Office documentation, communicating social media news relating to the ball and co-ordinating graphics and descriptions for the event blog and programme.

Centre manager Mo Usman said the internship would be ideal for a recent graduate or someone studying for a qualification in event management, marketing, or communications.

Mr Usman added: “Since Phoenix House opened last September, hundreds of wounded, injured and sick servicemen, women and veterans and families have been to the Centre and supporting them in their road to recovery has been our priority.

“The Winter Ball, which is being held at Tennants Auctioneers, Leyburn, on Saturday, November 29, is the centre’s first venture into large-scale fundraising and we would really appreciate an extra pair of hands so that we can continue doing our day-to-day job as well as ensuring that the ball will be a memorable night of elegance and splendour for all guests.”

Reasonable travel and lunch expenses for the intern will be covered by Help for Heroes. For more details and to apply, visit the careers at H4H section of the charity website www.helpforheroes.org.uk. Closing date for applications is Friday, August 15.
