A MAN is hospital after suffering a badly broken leg while out walking in the Yorkshire Dales.

The 41-year-old man, from Cambridge, fell down a riverbank while walking with his wife near to the River Swale, near Keld, North Yorkshire, on Thursday afternoon.

Because of the pain the man was in, and taking into account the distance to hospital by road, a paramedic requested the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) to attend.

Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team then helped transfer the man to to the GNAA's helicopter and he was flown to James Cook University Hospital for further treatment to his injured leg.
