THE Liberal Democrats have chosen their candidate for a North-East seat at the forthcoming General Election.
Craig Martin will stand for the Lib Dems in the Durham City constituency in 2015.
Mr Martin is a 25-year-old teacher and is from County Durham.
The Lib Dems finished second in Durham City in 2005, with Labour’s Roberta Blackman-Woods retaining the seat despite a strong challenge.
Mr Martin said he was proud of the Lib Dems’ record in Government, saying the party had delivered an £800 tax cut for 33,000 low and middle earners, £7.8m more in school funding for the poorest local children, 3,000 more local apprenticeships and an unprecedented rise in the state pension for 15,400 local residents.
“Local people deserve an MP who looks to the future, is passionate about creating and safeguarding jobs and who stands up for the whole constituency – city and villages,” he said.
The Conservative Party candidate will be Rebecca Coulson.
