A YOUNG sailor is set to travel the world after graduating from her navy training as a communications specialist.

Able Seaman Georgia Cocks, 20, from Darlington, said she joined the Royal Navy in December to make her mum proud and to get a good career that allowed her to travel.

After graduating as a communication information specialist from HMS Collingwood, in Hampshire, she has now completed her phase two training with Victory Squadron.

The former Carmel RC College pupil, whose mother, Sandra, still lives in Darlington, will soon join her first ship HMS Diamond.

She said: “I can’t wait to visit different places in the world and meet the crew of HMS Diamond.

“I’m eager to experience all the new things that come from being within the Navy.” While on the training course, Ms Cocks represented the Navy at high jump and 400m hurdles.

At HMS Collingwood, she learnt about sending and receiving information using the specialist communication and IT equipment used by Navy and will now her skills in a practical setting on HMS Diamond.
