SPECTATORS were out in force this morning for the first day of the Croft Nostalgia weekend.

Motoring enthusiasts mixed with vintage fashion fans at the popular annual event at Croft Circuit, near Darlington, which continues tomorrow (Sunday).

The nostalgia event has a special resonance this year, as the circuit celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first racing event.

The 18 race line up has attracted more than 200 competitors from around the country in the Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) organised event.

AC/DC lead singer and motoring enthusiast Brian Johnson is one of those taking part in the event.

Graham White, executive director of the HSCC, praised Croft as a 'drivers circuit' and said racing fans looked forward for a chance to visit the venue.

He added: "It is the only race circuit in the North of England so it draws people here and it also give people from the north and from Scotland the chance to race when they might not be able to come to events in the south."

Racing continues tomorrow with the first practice session due to begin at 10am ahead of racing from 10.40am. Entry is £18 per person. Accompanied children under 15 enter for free.
