TWO young yachtsmen who are recovering from cancer have set sail on a five-day adventure.

Daniel Adams and Jordan Conley, both from County Durham, were among the crew of yachts which took part in a sailing trip out of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust base, in Largs, Scotland last month.

Daniel, from Gilesgate, was treated for Hodgkins Lymphoma at the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle in February 2012.

The 21-year-old is taking part in his second seaborne adventure with the trust. He said: “Last year was my first trip. It was absolutely fantastic and I was very keen to get back on the water.

“We were on the water a lot longer than last year. We started from Largs and had a lot more freedom on the yacht. It felt good to be trusted and have more responsibility.”

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Jordan was taking part in his first trip.

Jordan, from West Cornforth, has been receiving treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the Great North Children’s Hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.

He said: “I was so excited before the trip as I had researched the Trust so knew exactly what to expect. I was told about it by the hospital and other people I know who have done it persuaded me to get involved and I am so glad I did.

"It was so nice to meet people who have been through a similar experience as I have, it just made me feel normal and a part of something”.

Crew members sail a 40-ft plus yacht, taking part in everything from steering the boat to cooking for fellow crew members.
