A FORMER royal residence which opened its doors to the paying public for the first time has played host to celebrity royalty, welcoming rock star Liam Gallagher as its first bed and breakfast guest.

The former Oasis vocalist described the country hall hotel as a "top gaff" according to managers of Rudby hall, at Hutton Rudby, near Stokesley.

The Grade 11 listed hall has undergone a major refurbishment to restore it to its former glory.

After staying at Rudby Hall the renowned entertainer wrote in the guestbook: "Can't remember a thing, so must have had a good time. Top gaff, nice people.”

His girlfriend Debbie Gwyther added: "Stayed here for few nights for a friend's wedding. Great hospitality, brilliant nights’ sleep and an ace breakfast to top it off, perfect!"

Wendy Desiles of Rudby Hall, said: “To have the pleasure to welcome Liam Gallagher to the hall as our first bed and breakfast guest was a real honour. He appreciated the total privacy that Rudby Hall can offer.”

The hall was built in 1838 as a royal residence for the daughter of King William 1V Lady Amelia Cary and husband. The hotel has six bed and breakfast suites and a further seven suites are due to be unveiled this winter.
