A NURSING home aiming to break down misconceptions of how residents live has held a week-long fundraising activity week for all the family.

Rosedale Nursing Home in Catterick Garrison, which looks after a high proportion of dementia residents, has held various fundraising activities throughout the week in aid of Dementia UK, the residents’ fund, and for Gastroschisis – a birth defect that affects the abdominal wall – for a staff member’s relative.

Administrator Julie Brooks said: “We have had a fun week with lots of events.

“On Wednesday we had a sponsored walk or run around our gardens, which are fairly large, and we completed 1,000 laps, and on Saturday (July 26) we are holding our fate which is open to the public and we hope we will get a good turnout to support us.

“There will be stalls, a play bus for children, and a raffle so there is something for everyone.”

Ms Brooks said staff at the home try to give residents plenty of stimulation, even if it means just watching the antics of staff and family members.

“This is their home and it should be an enjoyable place for them to live.”

Staff hope to raise about £1,000 for their chosen charities over the week.
