A ‘SUPER sibling’ event has been held in memory of a loving big sister on the day after what would have been her 25th birthday.

Actor Steven Arnold, who plays Ashley Peacock in Coronation Street and former professional snooker player, Willie Thorne, presented awards to deserving youngsters who were given celebrity treatment at the Sporting Lodge, Middlesbrough, which laid out a red carpet in their honour.

Victoria Laurence had always looked after sister Rebecca, who battled cancer twice as a young child.

From the age of seven she spent many hours on the children’s cancer ward at the Great North Children’s hospital in Newcastle, helping nurses look after her younger sister and other children on the ward.

It was there she decided that she wanted become a student nurse but a week into her first placement the 19-year-old suddenly fell ill and died in her parents’ arms.

In 2011 Ian and Lynne Laurence of Redcar set up the charity, Victoria’s Wish, in their daughter's name which now raises money to give treats to youngsters living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and their families.
