A TEENAGER has admitted attempting to carry out a robbery at a village convenience store.
Liam Arron Dann entered the Late Shopper in Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, carrying a meat cleaver, demanding money from shopkeepers Mike Barnes and Wendy Swords.
He banged the long-bladed knife down on the counter twice, but Mr Barnes refused to hand over any money.
Mr Barnes then threw a bundle of newspapers at Dann, who fled the premises, in West View, empty-handed.
He was later arrested following forensic examination of a footprint from the scene.
Appearing at a preliminary hearing in the case, at Durham Crown Court, nineteen-year-old Dann admitted a charge of attempted robbery, stemming from the incident on the evening of Monday, December 16.
Sentence was adjourned by Judge Christopher Prince to allow for the preparation of a background report on the defendant by the Probation Service.
Dann, of Princes Street, Bishop Auckland, was remanded in custody prior to sentence, on Friday, August 22.
