YOUNGSTERS preparing for the move to big school came face to face with a much more daunting prospect this week - a lifelike dinosaur.
Sophie the seven-year-old Tyrannosaurus Rex stomped into Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College, in County Durham, on Wednesday (July 23) much to the surprise of 24 children.
The youngsters are all taking part in a summer school programme to help them prepare for starting the college in September.
An appearance by the animatronic creature was the highlight of an archaeological themed day ran by Education Group.
Other activities during the week included a magic performance and circus skills workshop.
Lynne Gibson, director of learning for business and enterprise at the college, said: “The idea is to help year six pupils develop their literacy and numeracy in a fun way and for them to make friends, build confidence and get used to the school before they start here.”
