EXTREME hairstyles helped raise money for a school catering for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The bizarre barnets were part of a day of madness at the Kings Head pub, in Cockfield, County Durham, in aid of The Oaks School, Spennymoor.

Pub landlord Andrew Pattinson, who had been growing his hair and beard since April, had half of his head shaved, half an eyebrow and half his beard shaved.

Lisa Wood, who organised the event, also had her head shaved into a Mohican.

Several others had body hair waxed and barmaid Kayleigh Howe was sponsored to go without make-up for one of her shifts at the pub.

Miss Wood, whose 16-year-old son Matthew attends The Oaks, thanked Nigel Dowson, of Darlington-based Jigsaw salon, for the unusual hairstyles.

Although the fundraising total from the event has yet to be confirmed, Miss Wood hopes it will be between £3,000 and £5,000.

She said: “It was absolutely fantastic. The Oaks is such a good school, they go out of their way for the pupils so it was nice to support them.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped with the event, especially my daughter, Jade Kirby, and my close friends.”
