YOUNG visitors to a County Durham museum are being urged to be extra vigilante for interesting animals and artefacts this summer.

Killhope, the North of England Lead mining Museum in Weardale, has launched a new I-Spy guidebook for youngsters to enjoy.

Eagle-eyed young visitors are being challenged to spot a range of artefacts, wildlife and exhibits with the help of the activity book.

The 64-page colour pocket book features dozens of pictures complete with descriptions.

Children are encouraged to try and spot all of the items and record them in the book in order to score as many points as possible so they can achieve an I-Spy certificate.

Shelagh Connor, Killhope visitor services officer, said: “Everyone loves to play I-Spy so we’re really excited to have our very own book dedicated to all the exciting things you can see at Killhope.

“The book is packed with dozens of pictures of interesting items, exciting exhibits and fascinating artefacts as well as lots of animals, plants and flowers, so it should a good challenge for children to spot everything.”

Copies of the book are available from the museum shop for £2.50.
