PROMISING Picassos have had their talent recognised at an annual show.

Final year art students at Hummersknott Academy, in Darlington, showcased their work at the school’s summer show, where visitors could vote for their favourite piece in different categories.

The winners this year, who each received a voucher for The Art Shop, in Bondgate, Darlington, were Nadia McLoughlin for most outstanding achievement, Erin Hughes for mixed media, Hannah Matthews for the best drawing or painting, Jessica Birkbeck for best textile work and Joan Chemorei, who took the prize for best 3D work.

Ian Hughes, owner of The Art Shop, said: “I am always delighted to support the talents of art students in the town and hope they continue to develop their skills.”

Maggie Harrison, acting head of art, said: “We are extremely grateful to Ian for his support over many years.

“The prizes recognise the individual student’s achievements and help them purchase art materials for the courses they will follow over the coming year.

“The exhibition showcased the excellent work produced by year 11s during the course of the past two years and we are now looking forward to top marks when the examination results are received in August.”
