A FARMER thinks he may have the oldest pygmy goat in the world.

Daisy, the dainty pygmy has been a resident at Easingwold Maize Maze since it opened in 2003 and has now reached the grand old age of 17.

In her lifetime she has been stolen on two occasions, making headlines in 2009 when she was taken with her baby goat Lily. Both were recovered two weeks later with the help of police.

Then in 2011 Daisy’s triplets, Snowy, Maisy and Billy were stolen.

They were recovered four weeks later and all four pygmy goats appeared on the BBC’s Robbed, Raided and Reunited in 2012.

Despite the stress of her ordeals, the old goat is still going strong and this year became a great grandmother.

Two of her great grandchildren, Arge and Tina, were born on World Cup Final day. All of the goats can be seen by the public at the attraction.

Farmer Paul Caygill, who runs the Maize Maze near Thirsk, is eager to find out if Daisy is a record breaker. He said the average lifespan for a pygmy goat is about ten years.

“Daisy has been with us right from the start and is looking forward to another chance to show off her family at the maze," he said.

“She is in fine fettle and I would welcome any information about other “long-life” pygmy goats. It would be great to discover if Daisy is a record breaker.”

This year's theme of the maze is the World Cup and it will remain open until August 31.
