MORE than 6,000 people took part in Sunderland’s first ‘Color Run’ today (Sunday, July 21).
Covering the crowd in vibrant powder explosions at every kilometre, the 5k course had no official times or winners.
The event, at The Stadium of Light, allowed participants to complete the route by jogging, walking and dancing their way to the finish.
As people reached the end of the course, covered head-to-toe in multi-coloured powder, they were greeted by a party atmosphere with local DJs entertaining the crowds.
Dubbed ‘The Happiest 5k on the planet’, The Color Run organisers say the focus is on healthiness, friendship and community spirit.
Event organiser Joe Rafferty said: “After the triumph of The Color Run in 2013, we knew we should spread the joy and happiness of the event to the North-East this year.
“We had great success on our return to London and Manchester but this was the first time for The Color Run in Sunderland and the crowds here certainly didn’t disappoint.
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part, they’ve really captured the spirit of the city here today and we look forward to seeing them again at The Color Run next time we’re here.”
