PUPILS have spent the last week of term recording a single to raise money for a local charity.

Youngsters at the Park View School in Chester-le-Street have put the song online where it can be downloaded for 79p to support the work of the If U Care Share Foundation

The charity, based in nearby Great Lumley, was set up by the family of Daniel O’ Hare, 19, who took his own life despite showing no signs of being troubled.

The charity aims to provide help and support for youngsters who feel suicidal and also helps the families of young people who commit suicide.

English teacher Jo McMurchie said: “The last week of the school year at Park View is Enrichment Week.

“The pupils do different projects and the project this year was to create a charity single.

“Things like Band Aid were our starting point and we thought we could do it in a week.”

The Indie pop-style song, There’s Always a Way, was written, performed, recorded and marketed by pupils.

More than 20 youngsters, mostly in Year 9, were involved in the project, which utilised the school’s own equipment.

“We are hoping to raise between £500 and £1,000 for the charity,”said Mrs McMurchie.

The song can be heard on You Tube and downloaded from Bandcamp at parkviewschoolcharitysession.bandcamp.com
