A MAN has died following a collision between a lorry and an agricultural vehicle on the A19, in North Yorkshire, yesterday.

The accident happened near Thimbleby, between Northallerton and Thirsk, at around 2.50pm.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We can now advise that sadly, the driver of the lorry, a man from Derbyshire, died at the scene of the collision."

The road remained closed in both directions into the early hours of the morning to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and recover the vehicles.

The spokesman said the lorry and a crop sprayer involved in the crash were both travelling north-bound on the A19.

The lorry collided with the crop sprayer and crossed the central reservation, before leaving the south-bound carriageway near the Thimbleby turnoff, coming to rest in a wooded area at the side of the road.

The driver of the crop sprayer was uninjured.

Any witnesses to the collision, including anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the crash, are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team, or email mcit@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
