POLICE are no longer investigating an incident in which a man was found wandering along the A66 having had his penis severed.

Cleveland Police says it is not looking for anyone in connection with the incident near South Bank, Middlesbrough.

The 40-year-old man, from Redcar, was found by the side of the A66 in March. He was put into an induced coma at the nearby James Cook University Hospital.

A 22-year-old man was originally arrested, but was later released without charge.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “The investigation is now complete and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

Police have not said how the man, who has never officially been named by police, came about the injury, for which he needed months of plastic surgery.

Specially trained officers visited him on several occasions while he was in hospital.

At the time of the incident, the dual carriageway was closed for several hours while officers carried out a fingertip search of the road and grass verge for the missing organ.
