POLICE are advising motorists to take care on the region's roads this morning after heavy rain in some areas.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "We have received reports of localised flooding on some roads and motorists are being advised to take care on roads; drive safely and watch out for standing water.
"Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, moderate their speed, use their lights appropriately and drive according to the conditions.
"Motorists should be aware that visibility may be reduced, so be alert for cyclists and pedestrians and maintain a safe distance from other road users.
"If roads have flooded then motorists are advised not to drive through any deep water as drains and manhole covers could have lifted leaving the road unsafe."
