POLICE are investigating after a disused farmhouse was destroyed by fire.

The two storey farmhouse building in Greenfields Road, West Auckland, County Durham, was severely damaged by a blaze reported to the fire service at 5.47pm on Sunday.

Firefighters stood down shortly after 7pm after using hose jets to tackle the fire.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue said police had been requested to attend the scene.
