DOZENS of homes are without power tonight after a power cut in the Denes area of Darlington.

A total of 84 homes in the DL3 postcode are thought to be without power, while The Brinkburn Flaming Grill pub, in Brinkburn Road, has also been affected.

Northern Powergrid said an underground mains fault was responsible for the interruption to supply which was reported at 7.05pm.

An engineer was on site carrying out investigations, the company said.

It expected power to the affected area would be restored by midnight.

Local reports suggested smoke had been seen coming from a nearby electricity sub-station.
