A VOLUNTEER has used his first haircut in six years to benefit several charities.

Jonathan Marshall decided to mark the chopping off of his 27-inch long hair by doing it for charity.

The 23-year-old has volunteered at several charities and community groups in the Wear Valley area over the past few years and wanted to help others with his head shave.

Mr Marshall said: “Rather than simply going to a barber shop I wanted to do something to help others and decided I would organise a sponsored hair cut.

“I am only too happy to help.”

Mr Marshall went to Cutz for Fellas in Crook to undertake his charity chop.

Stylist Lynn Roberts performed the deed for free to aid Mr Marshall’s fundraising.

Mr Marshall, from Bishop Auckland, said: “Lynn took great care whilst cutting my hair so that it can now be donated to the Little Princess Trust who make real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair whilst being treated for cancer.

“As well as raising money I also hope my hair will make great wigs for children and make some aspects of their lives easier.”

Mr Marshall has raised more than £120 with sponsorship still coming in.

The money will be split between the Little Princess Trust, Bishop Auckland YMCA charity shop and the Second Bishop Auckland Scouts.
