A WELFARE champion spent several hours with a North-East MP to help address people’s concerns on Government reforms.

Daniel Robertson gave advice as he spent time with Phil Wilson at the Sedgefield MP’s office in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, today (Friday, June 27).

He is part of the Welfare Champions scheme run by the East Durham Trust to offer support on the Government’s welfare reform measures.

The project is funded by the Great Aycliffe and Middridge Area Action Partnership and social local housing provider livin.

Mr Wilson said: “I thought it was a good idea and so I thought let’s give it a go and it was a very successful event.

“They wanted to come out to give advice and so they dropped in for a couple of hours.”

Malcolm Fallow, chief executive of East Durham Trust, said: “I would urge people to contact their local Welfare Champion.

“The volunteers are doing a great job in supporting people at a grass roots level.”
