A BROTHER and sister made it a family affair at a national Thai boxing competition as they clinched gold and silver medals.

Amy Forster, six, of Ferryhill, won gold in the British Open Junior Thai Boxing Championships in the six to seven-years age category.

The victory meant that the pupil at Broom Cottages Primary School, in Ferryhill, won the winner’s championship belt.

Her brother Aidan Forster, 12, who attends Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College, was second in his section.

He took part in the age 11-13 and 40-45kg category at the competition in Birmingham in May.

Aidan, who took up the sport aged three, said: “Before the championships I trained really hard and it looks like it paid off.

“I am looking forward to competing in more competitions and improving my techniques to become the best that I can be. I definitely want to carry on Thai boxing as a future career.

“Competing in the British championships was an honour in itself but winning a silver medal feels like a dream come true. It was a great day and really special to see my sister placed first too.”

The youngsters have four training sessions a week including group and private lessons.

Amy Forster said: “To win the British championships was the best feeling in the world. Wearing the championship belt was amazing. I was so surprised when I won.

“I love taking part in competitions. I was really proud of my big brother too.”
