A MAN has been arrested after the death of a woman in Newcastle.
Northumbria Police said that at 8.14am today (Wednesday) police received a report of the death of a woman aged in her 60s at a house at Lismore Place in Newcastle.
A man aged in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody helping with enquiries.
Enquiries are in the early stages and are ongoing.
Superintendent Peter Farrell, Newcastle Area Command, said: "The investigation is in the very early stages and extra patrols are taking place in the area to reassure local residents.
"A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody. At this stage it's believed those involved are known to each other."
