STUDENTS have raised £47,000 for charity.
Durham University students collected the money over the past academic year through various activities and stunts, staged under the umbrella of the Durham University Charities Kommittee (Duck).
The money will be split between ten good causes, chosen by students in a vote.
Duck chair Naz Atkinson said: “We are delighted to have such a large fund to give out to a range of truly worthy causes.
“We felt it was crucial to give all Durham students the opportunity to have a say about where this money goes.
“After all, it’s down to Durham students’ ongoing fundraising efforts that we’re able to generate so much money for these fantastic charities.”
The shortlisted charities are: Against Malaria Foundation, The Pratham Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Medic Malawi, Camfed, Moving On Durham, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue, Solar Aid, Mesarani Project and Kid’s Company.
Voting took place last week. The results are yet to be announced.
