TWO Tesco employees are preparing for a challenge of a lifetime with a charity trek in north Vietnam.

Donna Goldbrough, of Coundon, and Amandeep Uppal, 38, of Consett, are hoping to raise £6,000 for Diabetes UK – Tesco’s chosen charity for the year.

The ten-day trip, which will see them trek for five days, begins on Thursday, October 2.

Mrs Goldbrough, 42, who has undertaken a number of challenges in the past, including walking along The Great Wall of China, said: “I don’t know how it came about but we are looking forward to it.

“I think this is going to have its own challenges. It is going to be completely different to what I have done before.”

To help with the fundraising, a family fun day was held in the car park of Tesco’s St Helen Auckland, where they work, earlier this month.

About £1,800 was raised towards the trek and another £4,000 was raised for a number of other charities and community groups, including Evergreen Primary School, Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support, Bishop Auckland St Mary’s Angels and Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club.

Aimee Maguet, of Diabetes UK, said: “They could have done it for any charity but we are delighted they have chosen Diabetes UK. It is incredible what they are doing.”
