A ROTARY club has raised more than £30,000 for charity.

Representatives of various good causes gathered at Finchale Training College, near Durham City, today (Wednesday, June 18) to receive their share of the money raised over the past year by Durham Rotary Club.

In total, more than 45 local, national and international charities are benefitting from the Rotarians’ efforts this year, which have included the annual Durham City Swimathon at Freeman’s Quay leisure centre, a Santa’s Sleigh tour and other fundraising events and donations.

Club president Martin Leake said: “Today is a real highlight in the Rotary Club’s calendar and we are delighted to welcome so many of our local charity donation recipients here today for this special occasion.

“County Durham is blessed with many essential services being delivered by local people giving selflessly of their time, experience and skills.

“Together, they are making a real difference within our local communities and we are delighted to give them our support.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the vital work they do and wish them all the best for the forthcoming year.”
