THE NEXT stage in the creation of the smallest park in Britain will take place on Saturday, June 21.
A group of Darlington residents have banded together in a bid to create the Councillor Gerald Lee Park, set to become the tiniest park in the country.
The park – measuring around 25 square metres and named in honour of Darlington’s mayor – will be established on a small piece of previously derelict land under an advertising billboard close to Victoria Embankment.
It is being designed as an environmentally aware space and will feature plants, free drainage, a recycled bench and two “wish bushes”.
The South Terrace Residents Assocation, together with the Guerilla Gardeners Darlington Division, are now appealing for volunteers to help them with The Big Plant, taking place on Saturday from about 10am.
Donations of plants and old carpet would also be welcomed.
