FREE tennis sessions will be offered at a Darlington club this month, in the hope of unearthing the next Andy Murray.

Wellfield Tennis Club, in High Coniscliffe, will be opening its doors and offering free tennis to visitors on Sunday, June 29, from 2pm to 5pm, as part of a series of Great British Tennis Weekends this summer.

All are welcome, regardless of age or ability. Rackets and tennis balls will be provided so anyone and everyone can get involved whether they’ve never tried tennis before, want to get back into the game or are a regular player.

Advance booking is recommended at greatbritishtennisweekend.com although participants can also just turn up on the day.

Light refreshments will be provided and club bosses say the event is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon in the middle of Wimbledon fortnight.

Chairwoman Anne Waldin said: "We are really excited to be running an open day as part of the Great British Tennis Weekend.

"It’s a fabulous chance for people to find out what a great sport tennis is, and for us to showcase Wellfield as a great place to play it.”

The club is at the east end of High Coniscliffe, near the Spotted Dog pub.
