A COMMUNITY hall has been spruced up thanks to the efforts of two volunteers.

Staff from Darlington Building Society branches have been working with Red Hall Community Centre, in Darlington, for the last year to improve its garden space by planting and painting the gazebo.

With the outside work done, attention has now turned to the inside of the hall and a meeting room that was in need of a lick of paint.

Josh Palin, sales and marketing officer, and Ellie Durham, a customer sales assistant, worked together to paint the room as part of the building society’s volunteering scheme, which sees all staff take one day off a year to benefit the community.

Mr Palin said: “Ellie and I really enjoyed the task. Neither of us have had much experience of decorating but the finish looked really good”.

He added: “Red Hall Community Centre is a very popular facility and it was rewarding to be able to help out.

“We managed to get more paint on the walls than on the floor which I understand is the principal objective.”
