A NEW group has been set up to support the transgender community in the North-East.
The Cleveland Transgender Association (CTA) held its inaugural meeting recently and set out its aims to empower, educate and accept all who identify as transgender around the Teesside area.
The association, set up by trans-rights campaigner Ellie Lowther, will also offer support to family and friends.
Ms Lowther said: “Our area is sadly lacking in support services for the trans community.
“Many are often disowned and abused by family and friends and some are ridiculed and attacked.
“CTA hopes to empower, educate and accept those who identify as trans and act as a resource point for families and friends, hopefully to break down some of the false perceptions around who we actually are.”
