PUPILS at a Darlington primary school donned their stetsons to walk to school with a cowboy.

Pupils at Federation of Abbey Schools were led on their journey by Cowboy Quick Walk as part of the MEGA motion campaign to encourage children across the borough to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

The scheme is supported by Team Local Motion at Darlington Borough Council and each month features a different theme, with various characters from history being introduced to the pupils.

Robin Hood, knights in shining armour, dinosaurs and pirates have all been seen walking to school in Darlington on Friday mornings as part of MEGA motion.

Councillor David Lyonette, council cabinet member for transport, said: “MEGA motion is a great way to encourage families to consider the way they travel to school.

“This year’s walks have been incredibly popular and have hopefully got families thinking about how they travel to school.

“By encouraging children to walk from an early age, they develop key life skills such as navigation and road safety as well as increased independence and confidence.”
