A MAN has appeared in court charged with possessing £1m worth of heroin with intent to supply.
Liam Kerrigan is accused of having 8 kg of the Class A drug when he was stopped by police on the A1 near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, yesterday (June 12).
Mr Kerrigan, 35, of St Anne’s Gardens, Liverpool, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A, namely diamorphine.
No charges were entered and magistrates agreed to send the case to Durham Crown Court.
Mr Kerrigan was remanded into custody and is due to appear at the crown court in Durham City on Friday, June 20.
Prosecutor Ann Darwin said 8 kg of heroin has a street value of £1m.
She also said the offence has a starting point of six to nine years in prison upon conviction.
