A DRUNK DJ spat at two police officers after smashing his car into a wall, a court heard.

Police were called to McMullen Road, Darlington, in the early hours of Boxing Day, magistrates in Newton Aycliffe were told.

They found Graeme Anthony Hogg, 31, of Heritage Court, Darlington, had crashed his Vauxhall Vectra, prosecutor Rachel Dodsworth said.

He appeared under the influence of drink and drugs and as officers went to arrest him, he spat at two of them.

Ms Dodsworth said police found a bag of white powder in the car, which Hogg said was cocaine, which he used while doing his DJing shows.

Emma Richards, mitigating, told the court that the substance was in fact creatine which he takes as part of his gym regime.

Ms Richards said Hogg had been with friends and despite repeatedly telling them he was unfit to drive he ended up behind the wheel.

She said he has no recollection of the crash or of being arrested and that he was disgusted with himself for spitting at the police.

Hogg admitted possessing cannabis, attempting to possess a class A drug, assaulting two police officers, using a car without a valid test certificate and drink driving.

He was found to have 63mcg of alcohol in 100ml. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates ordered Hogg to complete 150 hours unpaid work and banned him from driving for 36 months.

He must also pay £50 compensation to each of the two officers, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
