PARENTS across the region still favour tradition when it comes to naming their babies, according to new statistics.
Amelia and Jack are the most popular names in the North-East with Amelia also the top girl’s name in Yorkshire and the Humber, where Harry takes top spot in the list compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and released this week.

It collated data from 2012 to compile the list of the top 100 names, broken down by region.
In the North-East, the top five girl’s names are listed as Amelia, Ava, Olivia, Emily and Sophie – a slight change from 2011’s Lily, Ava, Olivia, Amelia and Grace.
Parents in Yorkshire and the Humber favoured Amelia, Olivia, Emily, Evie and Lily for their baby girls and Harry, Jack, Oliver, Jacob and Charlie for their boys.
In the North-East the most popular boy’s names were Jack, Harry, Oliver, Charlie and James.
Traditional names dominate the whole list, with more old-fashioned monikers like Matilda, Eliza and Noah rising in popularity.
More unusual names include Neveah, which spells heaven backwards, the Polish boy’s name Kacper and Maksymilian.
