MORE than 200 pupils enjoyed a science extravaganza with the help of their parents and teachers.
St Charles RC Primary School, in Spennymoor, held its annual family learning day.
In previous years the children, aged between four and 11-years-old, have explored art and religious studies but this year they asked for a science theme.

Headteacher Judith Reeves said they spent the day investigating science by looking at rainbows, mini explosions, sweet sensations and the planet.
“With their families, the children have been investigating different types of science,” she said. “We have explored science outside and inside and it has been wonderful.
“We even dressed up in our lab coats and our protective goggles.
“It was a very enjoyable experience for everyone, young and old and it has been such a science success.
“We will consult with the children about next year and they will give us their ideas. We will then decide from there. It takes a very dedicated team of staff to put this on.”
The event coincided with the opening of a wildlife area created within the school grounds.
