A PERSON who died after being hit by a train last night (June 9) was a man in his 30s, British Transport Police (BTP) said.
He was struck near Eaglescliffe railway station, near Stockton, just before 11pm.
The man was from the east Cleveland area and his family have been informed of his death, which is not being treated as suspicious.
A file is being prepared for the Teesside Coroner.
He was hit by an empty train travelling from Middlesbrough to Darlington.
A BTP spokesman said: "BTP officers were called to the line close to Eaglescliffe station after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
"Officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 10.59pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
"Medics from the North East Ambulance Service also attended but the man... was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The man's family have been informed."
