QUAKERS fans have responded in droves to suggest street names for the new housing estate being built at Darlington FC's former ground.

Persimmon Homes are developing an 82-home estate at Feethams which was home to the club for 120-years.

In recognition of the long-standing association, Persimmon offered fans the chance to name two streets and a walkway on the new estate in homage to the club.

Dave Mills, community and fan liaison officer at Darlington FC, said the response had been “fantastic” with over 150 individual suggestions received.

He said the most popular themes were past players and major footballing events at Feethams.

Mr Mills wished to thank all the people who contacted him with their suggestions and said he is now in the process of identifying the three most popular names before submitting them to Persimmon for approval.

The three chosen names will be exclusively revealed in The Northern Echo once they have been accepted and confirmed by Persimmon and Darlington Borough Council.
