A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man died following an incident in Washington this morning (Sunday, June 8).

The victim, who was in his 30s, was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment following an incident in Washington, Wearside.

His condition was earlier described as critical, but police have now confirmed he has died of his injuries in hospital. His next of kin have been informed.

Police were called to Usworth Hall, in the Stephenson area of Washington, by the ambulance service at about 10.50am.

A 36-year-old man, believed to be known to the victim, was arrested and is helping police with their enquiries.

The police say no weapon was used in the incident.
