A CITY has hosted its first “pride” festival.
The inaugural Durham Pride, organised by the county’s LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community, featured street entertainment, live music and DJ sets.
The one-night event was staged around Walkergate, Durham City, last night (Thursday, June 5).
Hosts Miss Cybil DuVaux, from Blackpool Pride, and Miss Tess Tickle, dubbed the “Queen of Durham”, introduced drag acts, Shirley Bassey and Adele tribute acts, live music from Kredo and more.
Early in the evening, there were buskers, fire-breathers, stilt-walkers and other entertainment outdoors.
Later, the focus moved to the Slug and Lettuce pub and Loveshack nightclub.
Proceeds will go towards the launch of a same-sex domestic abuse charity in County Durham.
