Four men had to be rescued after sailing their rigid inflatable boat at full speed over rocks near West Scar, Redcar, this evening (June 5).
The crew were on their maiden voyage and the impact ripped off the gearbox and propeller.
They used a mobile phone to call the coastguards just after 5.15pm and Redcar RNLI lifeboat Leicester Challenge III was launched to rescue the stricken craft and its crew.
The lifeboat was quickly alongside and towed boat back to the beach at Redcar. No one was injured.
