A BED push will take place on Saturday (June 7) to raise funds for a North-East charity.

Shoppers in Darlington town centre will be greeted with the sight of a number of volunteers dressed up as super heroes.

They will push hospice worker Joyce Ramsdale around in a bed, in in an effort to raise funds for St Teresa's Hospice.

Nancy Spencer, the event’s organiser, is looking forward to taking part and is confident that the bed push will be a success.

She said: “The bed push will be a lot of fun. We are all pensioners and making a fool of ourselves will be great, because it’s all for a good and important cause.”

Mrs Spencer, who has volunteered at the hospice for 15 years, admitted that the charity is very close to her heart, and that people should be more aware of its work.

She added: “I think people don’t quite get the gist of what the hospice does.

"They see it as a depressing place, but it really isn’t. The help all around is amazing.”

In 2011, the hospice organised another charity bed run, which raised more than £300.

The bed push will start at the hospice shop, in Skinnergate, and will finish at the Pease Monument.
