A RING worth thousands of pounds has been stolen from a city centre jewellery store.

The platinum and diamond treasure, which was priced at £6,500, was taken from Bramwell Jewellers, on Elvet Bridge, Durham City, on Thursday, May 29.

At about 3pm, a shop assistant allowed a man in his 20s to examine the ring, but the man ran out of the store with it in his hand.

The ring is described as platinum with a single octagonal diamond and rub-over setting.

Durham Police are keen to speak to the man pictured in these images from CCTV, as they say he may hold information that could lead to the thief being identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Police police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
