FOOD, fitness and fun returned to Stockton High Street when a health specialist market came to town.

The town was brought to life with a whole range of activities for people of all ages to help improve their health, fitness and wellbeing.

There was opportunities to watch a variety of cooking demonstrations and get advice on preparing healthy, inexpensive meals for the whole family to enjoy.

Local chef Matty Brown served up some dishes of his own which shoppers could sample from his demonstration kitchen and there was plenty of hints and tips for anyone who wanted to try their hand at growing their own fruit and vegetables at home.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton Council’s cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “This market is a fun and friendly way for people of all ages to learn about making healthy choices. Whether you would like would like to learn how to prepare healthy meals.”

Information was on hand from a range of health and wellbeing organisations including More Life, Cancer Research UK and Go Herbal Life, and visitors to the market had the chance to speak to health experts and pick up a wide range of leaflets, professional advice and information to improve health and nutrition.

The Health market is part of Stockton Council’s programme of specialist markets which take place throughout the year.
