DOZENS of classic and modern MGs are to descend on North Yorkshire, with two car rallies due to use a country town as their starting point.

MG owners will be venturing out with their classic vehicles for the rallies, which will be setting off from Stokesley this summer.

On Sunday, June 8, the MG Car Club will be staging its 96-mile Prince Bishop’s Run, which starts from Stokesley and finishes in Durham, travelling through key locations taken by the medieval Prince Bishops. More than 40 classic cars are expected to be involved, including some dating back to the early 1900s.

The drivers and spectators are due to fuel up with a hearty breakfast at Howard's Bistro, owned by classic car enthusiast Graham Howard, in order to give people a chance to look at the vehicles. The rally will then set off from the Showfield carpark in Stokesley at 10am.

The tour will drive up into the Cleveland Hills, across the North Yorkshire Moors and into County Durham, ending at Durham Cathedral around 2.30pm.

And on Sunday, July 27, Howards will again be the starting point - this time for the 2014 MG Tees Valley Trail.
